About Me

About Me

My name is Sumrah Jan and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#97197).  I work with individual adults and couples, incorporating important tools and skills that can help attain better emotion recognition,  emotional regulation, mindfulness,  and distress tolerance. My hope for my clients is to gain a better understanding of themselves, which leads to healing and a sense of peace.  I believe in empowering my clients with strength based approaches when dealing with issues including but not limited to

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • stress
  • trauma
  • relationships
  • grief and loss
  • anger management
  • parenting and
  • communication challenges.

I am currently in private practice, but in the past I have worked successfully for several years both in community mental health clinics and in school settings.

Prior to pursuing psychotherapy, I was a software engineer by education. Soon enough, I discovered that my interests truly lie in a journey involving understanding and exploring human behavior and relationships and the life events that lend to the unwanted feelings of depression, anxiety, PTSD and other associated relationship challenges.

Having a bi-cultural background, and being in the U.S. for 25+ years,  I hope to incorporate the best from both western and eastern philosophies in my work. This approach lends to greater flexibility in thought and insight, resulting in greater strength and psychological and emotional well-being.

In addition to English, I speak Urdu and Hindi fluently and can provide counseling in those languages.

I have nurtured and cultivated my interest with great passion and it will be an honor if you would be willing to share your life story with me…….
